For Immediate Release:
NEW Haynes Manual
Citroën C3
Much larger than the Saxo, Citroën’s C3 is roomy and well-equipped. It may
lack the timeless appeal of the 2CV, but the C3 still has distinctive looks and is
well designed. Fun to drive, the various engine options offer a good choice of
performance or fuel economy.
Mainly because new cars are heavily discounted, the resale value of Citroëns tends
to be low – making the C3 a bargain for second-hand buyers. Indeed, if you have
£6,000 or more, to spend, there is a large choice on dealers’ forecourts.
But one drawback is the high cost of dealer servicing – as highlighted by the Daily
Mirror recently: “Drivers could save an average £50 a time by not having their new cars
serviced at main dealers. For some, like Citroën C3 owners, it can be up to £141 cheaper.”
It’s not just routine servicing that is pricey. To replace the front brake pads on a Citroën C3 a
dealer will charge around £100. Yet you can buy the parts from a reputable motor accessory
retailer for less than half that sum – a saving of over £50.
You would, however, be wise to invest £17.99 in Haynes’ new Service and Repair Manual
for the Citroën C3. It covers all petrol and diesel-engined models, including the hatchback,
XTR and special/limited editions, from 51 to 05 registrations.
As with all Haynes manuals, a wide range of DIY maintenance and servicing jobs are
covered in detail and illustrated fully – from changing a wiper blade to replacing a gearbox.
Each task has spanner ratings which grades it by the level of difficulty and the experience
required. Replacing the brake pads mentioned above is a straightforward 2-spanner DIY job.
The topics covered in the Haynes Service and Repair Manual include basic maintenance
– simple weekly checks – how to service your Citroën C3 and a guide to fault finding. There
are chapters on the braking system, the engine and transmission, the fuel and ignition
systems and the electrical systems – complete with wiring diagrams. There are useful checks
to do before the MOT test and information about how to deal with roadside emergencies.
The step-by-step instructions are compiled from hands-on experience – based on a
complete strip-down and rebuild of Citroën C3 vehicles using commonly available tools.
Valuable tips and short cuts in the Haynes Hints boxes help to make the jobs easier and
there is useful information about the tools you will require – including how to remove parts
without special equipment.
J Haynes, Managing Director of Haynes Publishing, says: “The Citroën C3 is perceived
as complex but many jobs can be performed by enthusiastic owners, whatever their ability.
Checking tyres and engine fluids, replacing wiper blades and light bulbs or renewing spark
plugs are just some of the things people can do themselves quickly and cost-effectively.”
Haynes is the world’s leading publisher of automotive repair manuals and renowned for
teaching millions of car owners how to carry out routine maintenance and repairs. Haynes
publishes manuals for more than 500 cars and vans as well as useful glovebox guides such
as Your Car. Haynes is truly a brand you can trust to help drive the cost of motoring down.

Citroen D Height Corrector Rebuilding Manual PDF
Rebuilding a Citroen D Height Corrector
Rebuilding your height correctors is one of the key steps to restoring correct suspension
performance. Bad height correctors are to blame for a wide variety of maladies, including sudden
drops, erratic height control response, wandering height, even frequent cycling of the pump due
to fluid pressure loss. In the short time I have owned D’s I think I have seen every one of these.
In fact, they were all on my car!
No rebuild is complete unless you also clean out the crossover labrynth. In order for the spool
valve to find center, it must have equal pressure on both sides, and excess fluid that finds its way
out to the ends must have a way out. The tiny disks and spacers trap sludge and tiny particles,
which interfere with the passage of fluid from one side of the corrector to the other.
These tools are used to service the crossover. The diameter of this 5/16” bolt has been ground
down slightly, then a slot cut in its end to form a tool used to get the brass plug out. It is the
equivalent to the tool MR 1376-50 mentioned in the manual. A nail is selected that closely
matches the diameter of the hole found on the opposite side from the plug. The tip is ground flat
to prevent damaging the thin metal spacers. Once the plug has been unscrewed, the pile of disks
and spacers pushed out using the nail.
One major note of caution, though: this manual was written before the use of LHM and consequently, where solvents used for cleaning suspension parts are mentioned, you MUST use the proper solvents depending upon the fluid used in your car. For LHM cars, use LHM, gasoline or mineral spirits. For LHS cars, use alcohol or hexylene glycol. It is also fine to rebuild an LHM corrector with LHS compatible rubbers.

LIKES DISLIKES
Well equipped
Excellent fuel economy
Good handling and ride characteristics
The Citroen C3 five-door hatchback is a new
entry into the crowded small car segment, and
one that comes with a big reputation from
overseas.
The C3 has won car-of-the-year awards in
Europe and was even voted the “world’s most
beautiful small car”.
In Australia, the C3’s pricing puts it at the
upper end of the small car segment where it
competes with recent new (and well regarded)
arrivals such as the Honda Jazz, Mazda2 and
Renault Clio.
Two versions of the C3 are available, the SX
and the Exclusive. Both are powered by a 1.4
litre single overhead camshaft engine that
produces a fairly meagre 57 kW. Buyers have
the choice of five-speed manual or four speed
automatic transmission.
Later this year, a more powerful (82 kW) 1.6
litre version of the C3 will arrive, with the option
of a five-speed sequential automatic gearbox.
Prices for the current C3 models start at
$19,990 for an SX, with an Exclusive manual
costing $20,990. Automatic is only available
in the Exclusive and its price is $22,990.

The Citroën
Technical Guide
There are many car manufacturers, makes, models
and versions on the road today but—as we all
know—none of them compares to Citroën in its
engineering excellence, especially regarding
suspension comfort, roadholding, and stability.
In this book we tried to describe how the various
subsystems work. We never intended to replace
service manuals or similar technical instructions.
Illustrations are schematic, focusing on the
principles of operation rather than on minute
details of implementation.
This guide is not linked to any specific Citroën
model but describes all systems and solutions
used on a large number of cars from the glorious
line of DS, ID, CX, GS, GSA, BX, XM, Xantia, Xsara
and the C5.

Electronic Fuel Injection The Otto engine needs a mixture of fuel and air for its operation. It would be the task of the fuel supply—carburetor or injection—to provide the engine with the ideal mixture. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as an ideal mixture.
